Canelo Alvarez Beats Yildirim in 3rd. by TKO: Only 1 Title Per Weight Class is Necessary!

As he prepares to unify the super middleweight titles, Canelo Alvarez speaks out

*UPDATE: CANELO DEFEATS YILDIRIM W/3RD RD. TKO

WBA & WBC Super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez is seeking to unify all of the titles in the division.
He faced WBC mandatory contender Avni Yildirim and demolished him in 3 easy rounds. He pounded Yildirim in the first 3 rounds quite thoroughly, knocking him down in the 3rd. When the referee went to his corner to see if he would return for the 4th round, his blank stare said it all. That was it.
Now that Canelo has beaten Yildirim, a May bout vs. WBO champ Billy Joe Saunders awaits, and a fall bout to unify everything with IBF champ Caleb Plant should settle everything if all goes to plan.
He recently shared his views.. He is among those in boxing who believes that only 1 title per weight class is needed. There are too many titles, “Everybody wants to have [a belt]”, he said “Everybody complains, but all fighters want to have a world title”.
While many are frustrated with the sheer number of titles, very little is being done about it. Some feel that this is simply a ploy by Camelo to legitimize his current career moves: if he unifies the title, some feel he’ll retire immediately. What do you think, boxing fans? Sound off now!
