Chicago’s Joshua Greer Jr. vs Edwin Rodriguez Declared Majority Draw!

Article by Rick Mohamed

Joshua Greer Jr. has changed his fighting style from what we have been used to seeing since he suffered that devastating KO loss to Mike Plania in June 2020. Greer definitely worked on carrying his hands nice and high, especially after getting stopped with a left hook in his previous outing.
I felt like both fighters (Greer and Edwin Rodriguez) shared who was in control of the fight most of the night! However Rodriguez stood his ground and had success in touching Greer up as did Greer likewise in touching up Rodriguez. However it appeared that Greer wasn’t ever in that accelerated mode and the explosiveness he usually displays.
After they step back into the ring from getting KO’d, fighters tend to be what they call gun shy. Greer took the fight to Rodriguez, but Rodriguez was counter punching Greer back beautifully and maintaining a spot in this fight to position himself for a W.
There were rounds it just appeared Greer took off instead of continuing to apply pressure and walk Rodriguez down. This could be why the judges scored this fight as a majority draw. Greer has switched his team up, including a new trainer. All this requires some getting use to plus being able to adapt to that change.
These are things I’m sure that will pan out with time. No doubt this didn’t go the way Greer would have wanted it to, but hey, I’ll take a draw over an L anyway. Great job to both fighters, this was an entertaining fight but could have used more explosiveness, if you will.
