Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. Speaks Out: Boxing Needs to be Cleaned Up!

Article by Rick Mohamed

Floyd Money Mayweather Jr., keep in mind showed why fighters need to request that VADA (Voluntary Anti-Doping Association) do all the testing for tainted blood and urine before they fight a big high profile fight. This is necessary to eliminate the possibility of a cheater in the sport.
Now Money Mayweather speaks out about how boxing has changed so much: from holding 15 round bouts to all of the many different titles and belts, and weight divisions when there use to be just 8, if you will. There are 4 main boxing authorities that reward the most meaningful belts: the WBA, WBC, WBO, and the IBF. That’s at least 60 different titles, and few of the divisions have unified their titles that are held by 1 single fighter.
The money man says ‘hey listen, boxing needs to be cleaned up’. ‘There is just too much going on with the sport of boxing now and it should get back to the way it should be.’. He believes that everyone on TV is holding a belt these days, and that dilutes the sport.
Maybe if boxers got together and insisted on just 1 governing body sanctioning the fights, then it would be much better for all involved. “This don’t look good”, says Floyd. In addition, Floyd says that he would like to see WBA champ Ryan Garcia take on Gervonta “Tank” Davis for his next fight, but Top Rank’s Bob Arum wants Garcia to take on newly-crowned unified lightweight king Teofimo Lopez for all of Lopez’ belts (It would be “one of the most lucrative fights” ever says Arum). Even “The Golden Boy”, Oscar De La Hoya agrees that a Garcia vs. Lopez fight would be a “classic”.
Meanwhile, we’ll just have to settle for Garcia vs. Luke Campbell on Dec 5 (this will be an afternoon bout, as not to conflict with the Errol Spence Jr. vs. Danny “Swift” Garcia dustup later on that night), and Tank vs. Leo Santa Cruz on Oct. 31.
