Juan Macias Montiel Delivers James Kirkland His Retirement Present on a Platter!

Article by Rick Mohamed

Journeyman Juan Macias Montiel beat a formerly prominent middleweight contender in James Kirkland handily. He floored Kirkland (3) times in the first round. Montiel delivered a super-hard left hook shot to Kirkland’s right temple, which sent him to the canvas quickly in 1:57 seconds of the round.
Kirkland got back up on his feet only to have Montiel jump on him again with a vicious volley of combinations that sent Kirkland down again. The final knock down did it and the referee waived this bout off as a 1st round KO!
Kirkland, once a superstar and prominent contender, trains under the tutelage of super star female world champion (and 2021 International Boxing Hall of fame inductee) Ann Wolfe. Montiel is a journeyman who put what was once a very high profile name in Kirkland on his resume. He looked like a super star in doing so.
Montiel’s record moving forward now is 25-4-2 with 22 KO’s, and Kirkland finishes his career at 34-3 with 30 KO’s. I can only hope that those closest to Kirkland tell him ‘champ it’s time to hang ya gloves up and walk away, you had a pretty good run Champ’!
I can only hope that Kirkland himself realizes this; he shouldn’t really need to be told. However, fighters have so much love and passion for a sport that’s been good to them and their families throughout their careers. It’s just hard to face the truth, unfortunately.
Montiel, on the other hand, will probably keep on pushing & hoping for a title shot. Win, lose or draw, he will still get his big payday when the time comes.
This was the co-Main Event on the card for PBC. Well, boxing fans I hope you enjoyed the fights closing us out for the year. I can’t wait to see the Ryan Garcia Vs Luke Campbell on Jan 2 2021 to start off 2021 for boxing.
Thank you all, and I hope we at Brawlers Sports Media didn’t disappoint delivering the most exciting boxing content during one of the worse years we all could have imagined. We look forward to servicing you all in 2021 as well.
