WBO Orders Terence Bud Crawford vs. Shawn Porter-Or Else!

Brawlers Sports CEO Rick Mohamed chats with Top Rank CEO Bob Arum

Article by Rick Mohamed

Terence Bud Crawford vs Shawn Porter for Bud’s welterweight title would be an exciting fight in any time, any occasion. Now, the WBO is making it a mandatory fight: if no deal is reached within 30 days, a purse bid will be ordered, with 60% of it going to Bud, reports ESPN’s Mike Coppinger.

Crawford’s promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank says that the purse bid won’t be necessary: he’s eying a November PPV bout between the 2. He originally wanted the fight to happen on Oct 23, but the Wilder vs Fury trilogy heavyweight championship will be happening on Oct 9 on PPV.
Two PPV fights promoted by the same promoter in the same month is a no-go, hence the move. Arum fully intends to negotiate a fight for that month and avoid the purse bid issue, so look for an official announcement in August. Arum doesn’t want a purse bid, since DAZN and Triller (let alone Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom, Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, and Floyd Mayweather’s Mayweather Promotions) happens.
It’s currently in his hands. He loses that power with a purse bid.
