Canelo Alvarez vs. Caleb Plant was supposed to be one of the year’s top Fall fights, but talks have broken off with no deal in sight. Sources hold out little hope of restarting talks and making this super middleweight title unification match happen…

Talks for the proposed Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant super middleweight title unification bout have broken off, and no deal appears to be in sight. Sources close to the fighters’ camps say they hold out a little hope, since talks were steadily progressing towards a deal, but, in the 11th hour, they ground to a halt.
Look for both camps to blame the other camp, but it takes 2 to make a deal, and 2 to not make one, as is the case here. What had been negotiated successfully was the oney: Plant would receive $10 million, while Canelo gets $40 million, a record for both fghters. PBC and Plant agreed to a rematch clause, so according to ESPN’s Mike Coppinger, this wasn’t one of the issues causing the stalemate.
Canelo may have wanted to fight on Mexican Independence Day weekend, but it’s unknown if that ended negotiations. At any rate, that might not happen, unless the 2 sides rush back to the table very soon, pick up where they left off, and get the deal done. Brawlers Sports will be watching, so when we know, you’ll know.
