[Interview] Live Chat w/ Glen "Road Warrior" Johnson-From Lt. Hvywt. Champion to Boxing Promoter

Article by Rick Mohamed

In 2004, he knocked out Roy Jones Jr. and catapulted his storied career; look at what he’s up to now…

Glengoffe (Glen) Donovan “The Road Warrior” Johnson was a late blooming Jamaican-born young fighter who started boxing at the relatively old age of 20 years old. He’d only been in the U.S. for 5 years. However, what he lacked in amateur experience, he more than made up for it in pure, raw, talent.
When he stepped into the ring to face the legendary Roy Jones Jr. in 2004, he was considered a nobody by many. Oddsmakers favored Jones to handily win the fight. However, Glen had another thought in mind: he came into the ring and knocked Roy Jones Jr. OUT.
For this, he was named Fighter of the Year for 2004 by Ring magazine and the Boxing Writers Association of America. After he shocked the world, his career really began to take flight.
He later won the light heavyweight championship, defeating Antonio Tarver for the IBO light heavyweight crown. During his long career, he held the IBO, IBF, and Ring magazine light heavyweight titles, challenged for titles in both the middleweight and super middleweight divisions, and even fought as a cruiserweight before ending his 22 year career in 2015. His final record was 54-21-2 (37 KOs).
Recently, he has started an entirely new career, but he’s still working in the sport of boxing. He is now a boxing promoter. As the promoter for his company Road Warrior Promotions, he is well known by local boxing insiders. He just successfully held his very first show on Jan. 23, 2021 in Miami FL, his home and base of operations. His next event will be March 6, 2021.
