OLEKSANDR USYK SPLIT DECISIONS ANTHONY JOSHUA

Oleksandr Usyk

Article by Rick Mohamed

usyk vs joshua 2Oleksandr Usyk outfought, outpunched, and defeated former champion, Anthony Joshua, in the rematch for the World Heavyweight titles (WBA, WBO, IBF, IBO). While Joshua fought well enough to win on 1 judge’s scorecard (115-113), Usyk carried the day on the other 2 judges’ scorecards (115-113,116-112) to retain the titles he won last September 15 from Joshua. After the fight, an extremely upset Joshua appeared to throw all of Usyk’s title belts out of the ring after he ranted in protest of the decision.

MELTDOWN!

After the decision, Joshua appeared to have a meltdown in protest of the judges’ opinions, taking the microphone from the announcer and ranting. More details will arise after awhile, but this is troubling.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR USYK?

Usyk is clearly in the driver’s seat in the heavyweight division, having beaten Joshua twice in a row. Only the WBC title eludes him from total supremacy. Current titleholder Tyson Fury just announced his retirement this past week but hasn’t yet relinquished the belt.

In addition, formed WBC champ Deontay Wilder just announced his return to the ring this Oct 15 vs Robert Helenius. Waiting in the wings for their chance for the belt are Joshua (despite his defiant rant) and former champion Andy Ruiz Jr.
