Queen Katie Taylor vs. Natasha Jonas for the Unified Ladies Lightweight Crown!

Article by Rick Mohamed

Katie Taylor is eager to prove herself after a lackluster performance; Natasha Jonas wants redemption.

Women’s unified champion Katie Taylor of Ireland battles Natasha Jonas of the UK for the undisputed ladies’ lightweight title LIVE on May 1, 2021 at AO Arena in Manchester, UK. Taylor holds the WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBF lightweight titles, and she wants to prove that she’s still worthy of being one of ladies boxing’s best fighters.
She turned in an underwhelming performance against her last opponent, Miriam Gutierrez. She’s eager to show all her fans her best in this fight. She wants to be “more vicious”, so she’s been studying the likes of Terrence “BUD” Crawford.
Natasha Jonas is coming off a draw vs. Terri Harper for the WBO & IBO super featherweight titles. She’s started boxing in 2005, so she’s a latecomer to the game.
She was a very accomplished amateur, and sports a 9-1-1 professional record, with 7 KOs. At 36, her career is on its last legs, and she won’t get many more championship fight opportunities.
This is a key battle for both of them. They last fought each other in the 2012 London Olympics, with Taylor winning the match en route to her winning the gold medal.
Taylor, undefeated in 17 fights, is a top draw in ladies boxing, after converting to boxing from soccer (football). She was a very successful footballer, winning multiple championships while a member of the Ireland team.
She is definitely a world class athlete who has proven to be successful in whichever sport she chooses to participate in.
Natasha Jonas can’t ever forget her loss to Taylor in the Olympics 9 years ago. Thousands of screaming, cheering fans were pulling for their favored fighter. Though Taylor won the 3 round amateur match, Jonas recently re-watched the fight.
She feels that had she had more rounds, she would’ve gotten the victory. Now that they’re both professionals fighting for the title, there will be plenty more rounds to work with.
