Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. AGAIN Misses Weight for Fight vs. Anderson Silva

Article by Rick Mohamed

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. missed weight for his upcoming match vs. MMA legend Anderson Silva by 2 pounds. He’ll have to forfeit $100K of his purse to Silva.

Guadalajara, Mexico: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (52-5-1 w/1 No Contest, 34 KOs) , namesake & son of a boxing legend, has once again missed the weight for his upcoming catchweight battle vs. MMA legend Anderson “The Spider” Silva at the Tribute to the Kings Mexican boxing event, scheduled for Saturday June 19, 2021 at Jalisco Stadium in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The 2 fighters agreed to a catchweight of 182 pounds. However, at the weigh-in, Chavez Jr. weighed in at a plump 184 pounds, 2 over the limit. As a result, Silva will receive $100K of Chavez’ purse for the fight.
This isn’t the first time Chavez Jr. has missed weight.
It’s happened a few times, so it comes as no surprise, but rather disappointment. He’s the son of one of boxing’s greatest legends, who also happens to be fighting Hector Camacho Jr. in the Main Event (Camacho himself is the son of another legend, the late great Hector “Macho” Camacho Sr.), so it’s probably an embarrassing situation for his Dad.
However, he’s his own man, 35-years old and free to make up his own mind. Back in 2011-12, he was WBC middleweight champion, so that fact, along with his name could deliver a fight vs. Mexico’s current legendary boxer, Canelo Alvarez.
Mexican boxing fans might pay a pretty penny for that match.
Canelo just delivered the largest indoor fight crowd when he defeated Billy Joe Saunders in Arlington, TX. An Alvarez fight legitimizes Chavez Jr. like no other opponent, but he can’t keep destroying his credibility.
That fight is in a possible future; for now, Anderson Silva awaits, and he’s $100K richer! “El hijo de la leyenda” (son of the legend) is going to have to put it together, or else….
