Edgar Berlanga’s 1st. Rd. KO Streak Ends in Sensational 8 Rd. UD vs Demond Nicholson!

Article by Rick Mohamed

Edgar Berlanga knocks Demond Nicholson down 4 times en route to overwhelming victory.

The young Monster Edgar Berlanga didn’t get his 17th win by way of a first round KO. TheStrek is over, done and gone.
However, the up and coming prospect still showed he can still hold his own if need be, when and if he has to go the distance. He won the 17th fight of his young career by unanimous decision (UD), over a very game and courageous but overmatched Demond Nicholson.
The match was part of the undercard of the Emanuel Navarrette vs. Christopher Diaz WBO Featherweight championship title fight card, @ Silver Springs Arena in Kissimmee, FL.
Nicholson (now 23-4-1, 20 KOs) got dropped in the 2nd round, one of 4 total knockdowns at the hands of Berlanga. The first few knockdowns led many to think that this would be it for Nicholson.
However, Nicholson, being the seasoned veteran he is, went into survival mode. He stayed in the fight, though his had wobbly legs at times.
Without a doubt, Berlanga dominated the entire fight and seemingly had Nicholson hurt in every round! This was a good test for the young prospect. He finally got the opportunity to get in the full 8 rounds for the very first time ever.
Berlanga showed some fatigue by the end of the 6th round. He was slowing down and took the next round off.
In the end, Nicholson has nothing to be ashamed of. He stepped up and took this fight and had plenty of outs (if that’s what he wanted to do). He didn’t just bow out, take his check and go home.
Berlanga closed the show in the 8th and final round, catching Nicholson with a hard looping right hand that dropped Nicholson with less than 10 seconds in the round!
Again, the veteran rose to his feet to survive the round and a KO just before the final bell sounded.
Well, Berlanga finished strong and took his professional record to 17-0, with 16 1st rd. KOs. He can only get better each time he steps into that square.
I can’t wait to see what’s next for this young gun. He’s going to need just a little more seasoning before he steps into the ring with the big boys and earns the big money, but he’s well on his way. Congrats to “Team Berlanga”. LETSGOCHAMP!!
