Chad Johnson Fights Bravely vs. Brian Maxwell in 1st Exhibition

Article by Rick Mohamed

Chad Johnson was knocked down late in his 4 rounder against Brian Maxwell, but he recovered and rallied to make for a solid boxing debut

Miami, FL.: Chad Johnson, in his glory days as an NFL Pro Bowl wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals, has seen large crowds before. He’s even been in high-pressure situations where the game, the victory, is on the line before.
Yet, when he faced Brian Maxwell on June 6 in Hard Rock Stadium, he experienced something entirely new: a knockdown. He’s been tackled hundreds of times over his long career, but Brian Maxwell had him in trouble in the 4th & last round.
However, he recovered from the knockdown and gave the fans a good showing. Afterwards, at the post-fight press conference, both fighters were respectful and grateful:
Brian Maxwell
“Ask the world who Brian Maxwell is now. Brain Maxwell is here. Thank you, Chad. It was an honor fighting my idol and I appreciate it.”
Chad Johnson
“I had fun. I had two months to get ready for this and I want to thank God for keeping us safe out there. I want to thank Floyd, Leonard Ellerbe and my whole team for allowing me to check this off my bucket list. My life has always been about taking chances and doing crazy stuff and this is just one off my bucket list.
It’s a message for a lot of people who are scared to fail, scared to lose, scared to take chances to go out there and live. Don’t be scared to fail, it’s okay. I don’t box. I fight but it ain’t in the ring so of course I was a little sloppy.”
Brawlers Sports would like to wish the best of success to “Team Johnson” and “Team Maxwell”. A special shout out goes to Brian Maxwell: in his first time in the limelight, he didn’t falter, and he didn’t disappoint. Cheers! We’ll be watching both of these men going forward.
